free downloads

There are lots of sites on the Internet that offer free quality music for download. It would be impossible to mention all of them here, so we've divided it up into four main sources: The essential Free Albums Galore blog, The Internet Archive, Jamendo and LegalTorrents.

Take the time to discover new artists, open your ears to new sensations and most of all, have fun!

Free Albums Galore
Free albums Galore, "the" Free Music blogThis has to be one of the finds of the year (any year, in fact). Free Albums Galore does a fantastic job of locating free music of all genres, from classical to hard rock. Essential, in my opinion.
Oddio Overplay
Oddio OverplayWhat Oddio Overplay lacks in the way of music criticism, it more than makes up for in the sheer volume of Creative Commons music links, updated frequently. A fantastic place to browse.
The Internet Archive
The Internet ArchiveThe Internet Archive hosts a collection of music and video under the Creative Commons licence. It includes free releases by internet-only labels and live tapes by hundreds of bands.

Jamendo
Jamendo, European Creative Commons music siteJamendo is a Europe-based site that offers free downloads of new music from several countries, including Spain, France, Germany and Italy. No registration is required, but you do need to have some kind of software for downloading, either for the E-Donkey or Torrent networks (see below).
Legal Torrents
Legal Torrents, legal content for the file-sharing Torrent system.Legal Torrents is really what it says, a site for finding legal content you can download via the Torrent file-sharing system. A good programme to use for Torrent files is Azureus, which is Open Source, free and updated regularly.
